Prof. Jan Hartvigsen

Chiropractor PhD

Dr. Jan Hartvigsen is professor and head of the Research Unit for Clinical Biomechanics at University of Southern Denmark (USD). He is also a Senior Researcher at the Nordic Institute of Chiropractic and Clinical Biomechanics. In addition he is the head of the Graduate Program for Physical Activity and Musculoskeletal Health at the PhD School at the Faculty of Health Sciences, USD.

His research focus is on longitudinal studies dealing with spinal and musculoskeletal pain in the population. In addition he has published randomized clinical trials in the area of conservative treatment of back and neck pain, musculoskeletal chest pain, and osteoarthritis of the hip. He has a strong interest in research methodology and has published many systematic reviews as well as papers dealing with diagnosis, reliability of manual examination procedures and clinimetrics.

He has authored many original papers, systematic reviews and editorials/commentaries in leading international journals including the British Medical Journal, Spine, Osteoarthritis and Cartilage, Pain, and Occupational and Environmental Medicine.

Jan Hartvigsen has been active in national and international task forces and health technology assessment groups in the areas of spine pain, traumatic brain injury, and evaluation of musculoskeletal research.
